New South Wales

Motor Traffic Amendment (Heavy

Vehicle Speed Limit) Regulation 1998

under the

Traffic Act 1909

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Traffic Act 1909.

CARL SCULLY MP

Minister for Roads

Explanatory note

At present, the maximum speed limit for coaches and heavy motor vehicles is 100 km/h, but that maximum speed is further restricted to 90 km/h, in certain circumstances, if the vehicle is not fitted with a device to limit its speed to 100 km/h.

The object of this Regulation is to remove that further restriction so that the maximum speed limit for all coaches and heavy vehicles is the same (that is 100 km/h).

This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including section 3 (the general regulation-making power) and, in particular section 3 (1) (b).
