Motor Traffic Amendment (Fees)

Regulation 1998

Traffic Act 1909

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Traffic Act 1909.

Explanatory note

The objects of this Regulation are:

(a) to introduce a sunset provision to provide that the increase in fees and charges (in accordance with the Motor Traffic Amendment (Fees and Charges) Regulation 1997) will cease to have effect from 1 July 2000 and from that date the lower fees and charges previously in force will apply, and
(b) to provide that the fee payable for transferring the registration of a motor vehicle into the name of a licensed dealer or wholesaler is $25 instead of $40, and
(c) to exempt pensioners from the payment of the fee for the issue of number-plates.

This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including section 3 (the general regulation-making power).

Regulation 1998.

Amendment of Motor Traffic Regulations 1935

The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

[ 1 ]       Regulation 14 Certificate of registration and number-plates

Insert after Regulation 14 (2): 

(2AA) A pensioner, within the meaning of Regulation 5, is not required to pay the fee prescribed in Schedule A for the number-plate or number-plates.

Insert after Regulation 133:

134 Special operation of Schedule A

On and from 1 July 2000, the fees and other charges specified in items 7, 8, 9, 14 and 15 of Schedule A are replaced by the fees and charges specified in the Appendix to that Schedule.

Omit item 9 (a). Insert instead

(a) where the application is made within 14 days of purchasing or acquiring
possession of a motor vehicle: 

(i)

in the case of any person who is the holder of a licence under the Motor Dealers Act 1974 or of any law of another State. or of a Territory or of the

Commonwealth. that corresponds

to a dealer's licence, or a

wholesaler's licence under the
