Motor Traffic Amendment (Fees and

Charges) Regulation 1997

Traffic Act 1909

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Traffic Act 1909.

Explanatory note
The objects of this Regulation are:

(a) to require payment for the first issue of a number-plate or number-plates at the time a motor vehicle is registrered, and
(b) to increase certain fees and charges payable in connection with the administration of the Traffic Act 1909.

This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including section 3 (the general regulation-making power) and, in particular, section 3 (l) (i), (k), (m) and (s).

1 Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Motor Traffic Amendment (Fees and

Charges) Regulation 1997.

2 Commencement

This Regulation commences on 1 February 1998.

3 Amendment of Motor Traffic Regulations 1935

The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended as set out in

Schedule 1.

The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation.

[1]        Regulation 14 Certificate of registration and number-plates

Insert “; and on payment of the fee prescribed in Schedule A for the number-plate or number-plates,” after “motor vehicle’’ in Regulation 14 (2).

[2]        Schedule A Fees and other charges

Omit Items 7, 8, 9, 14 and 15. Insert instead the following items:

Registration or renewal of registration of a motor vehicle for a period exceeding 3 months-Regulation 4 (1), in the case of:

(a) a motor vehicle (not being a motor vehicle

referred to in paragraph (b), (c), (d), (e) or (f) ..... 46
(b) a public passenger vehicle:
(i) in the case of a bus (not being a bus

registered in the name of the State Transit Authority) or other vehicle with an unladen weight of 5 tonnes or more equipped to

seat more than 8 adult persons ................. 242

(ii)      in the case of a bus (not being a bus

registered in the name of the State Transit Authority) or other vehicle with an unladen weight of less than 5 tonnes equipped to
