An Act to authorize the

appropriation .of the Old linrial Ground or Cathedral Close in Sydney to certain M uniefal ami other Vuhlic purposes ” it was enacted amongst other thinj -̂s that it should he lawful for tlic Governor with tlie advice of the ExecutiA'e Council to grant to the Municipal Council of Sydney tliat part of the land commonly called tlie Old Burial Ground or Cathedral Close in the City of Sydney Ai hich is descrilied in the first Schedule to the said Act on condition that a portion of the said land not heing more than half an acre should he set apart for tlie erection of a T oavii Hall thereon And Aihercas hy the fourth section of the said Act it Avas amongst other things further enacted that the said Municipal Council should cause the sum of twenty-five thousand pounds at the least to he expended in hnilding on the land so set apart as aforesaid for a T oavu Hall to he completed and fit for use on or before the first day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-tAA O and that if the said sum should not he expended as aforesaid or the said Town Hall completed AAdthin the time so limited the said Municipal Council should he subject to a penalty of one thousand pounds monthly until the said sum should he so expended or the said building he completed And Aidiereas a further portion of the said Old Burial Ground or Catliedral Close in addition to the portion described in the said first Sciiedide and granted to the said Municipal Council in pursuance of the poAvers in that behalf contained in the second section of the said Act AA'ill he required hy the said Council in order that they may he enabled to complete the building of the said T oavu Hall in accordance Avith the original design therefor And Avhereas the said Council liaA'C commenced the erection of a building upon the said portion of land on a more costly scale than that directed hy the said Act and Avcrc in consequence thereof unable to comply Avith the requirements of the said Act and to complete the said building fit for use on or before the said hereinbefore mentioned time Be it therefore enacted hy the Queen’s Most Excellent IMajesty hy and Avith the advice and consent of the L(\gislativc Council and Legislative Assembly of A cav South Wales in Parliament assembled and hy the authority of the same as folloAVS :—•
