Tobacco (Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix)

Regulations 1997

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe the restrictions which are to apply to the advertising of tobacco products at the 1997 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

2. Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections 10 and

43 of the Tobacco Act 1987.

3. Definition

In these Regulations—

"function or event" means—

(a) the 1997 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix; or

Tobacco (Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix) Regulations 1997

(b)

a function or event associated with the Prix—

to be held at Phillip Island at any time on or after 3 October and before 6 October 1997.

4. Restriction of displays

(1) Displays of the whole or part of a trademark, or brand name of a tobacco product or the name of the manufacturer or distributor of a tobacco

product in connection with a function or event comply with section 10(1) of the Tobacco Act 1987 if the displays are restricted to—

(a)	signs or objects on or within the site of the function or event; or
(b)	signs or objects on the outside of any road, sea or air vehicle used in the function or event or on any participant in the function or event—

that are permitted by section 18 of the Tobacco
Advertising Prohibition Act 1992 of the

Commonwealth.

(2) A display referred to in sub-regulation (1) must

not occur before 26 September 1997 or after

12 October 1997.

5. Sunsetting

These Regulations are revoked on 1 November

1997.
