Tobacco (Australian Grand Prix) Regulations 1998

The Governor in Council makes the following Regulations:

1. Objective

The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe the restrictions that are to apply to the advertising of tobacco products at the 1998 Australian Grand Prix.

2. Authorising provisions

These Regulations are made under sections 10 and

43 of the Tobacco Act 1987.

3. Definition

In these Regulations—

"function or event" means—

(a) the 1998 Australian Grand Prix; and

(b) a function or event associated with the 1998 Australian Grand Prix—

to be held at Albert Park at any time on or

after 5 March and before 9 March 1998.

4. Restriction of displays

(1) Displays of the whole or part of a trademark or brand name of a tobacco product or the name of the manufacturer of a distributor of a tobacco

product in connection with a function or event comply with section 10(1) of the Tobacco Act 1987 if the displays are restricted to—

(a)	signs or objects on or within the site of the function or event; or
(b)	signs or objects on the outside of any road, sea or air vehicle used in the function or event or on any participant in the function or event—

that are permitted by section 18 of the Tobacco
Advertising Prohibition Act 1992 of the
Commonwealth.

(2) A display referred to in sub-section (1) must not occur before 27 February 1998 or after 12 March 1998.

5. Sunsetting

These Regulations are revoked on 1 April 1998.
