An Act to amend the " Municipali t ies Act of

1867." [25th April, 1873.]

i t therefore enac ted by the Queen ' s Mos t Exce l l en t Majesty by a n d W H E R E A S doubts have arisen respect ing t he provisions of t he " Municipal i t ies A c t of 1867 " for levying l ight ing rates Be

wi th t he advice and consent of t h e Legislat ive Council and Legislat ive Assembly of N e w South "Wales in Pa r l i amen t assembled and by the au thor i ty of t he same as follows :—

1. The powers conferred upon t h e Council of any Munic ipa l i ty

unde r section 105 of t he " Municipal i t ies A c t of 1867 " shall ex tend

to es tabl ishing and levying special ra tes for t h e l igh t ing wi th gas or otherwise in addit ion to ra tes for the const ruct ion and ma in t enance of

works in connect ion wi th such l igh t ing .
2. Al l arrears of l igh t ing rates ex tend ing back to t h e first day
of J a n u a r y in t h e year one thousand e ight h u n d r e d a n d seventy-two

shall be recoverable unde r th is Act .

3 . This A c t may be styled and cited as " The Municipal i t ies

L igh t ing A c t of 1 8 7 3 . "
