TELEPHONE REGULATIONS.

Statutory Rules 1949, No. 39.(l)

Commencement.

1.—(1.) Regulations 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 of those Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of July, 1949.

(2.) Regulations 2, 6, 6, 7, 8 and 15 of these Regulations shall come into operation on the first day of August, 1949.

Rental within two-mile-radius.

2. Regulation 29 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(1.) The charge payable by a subscriber for a service specified in the following table shall be the rate specified in that table in relation to the service:—

Subscribers connected to exchanges having access to the following number of subscribers’ lines at the unit fee.

Radius of network or unit fee area.

Annual rental within two-mile radius of the exchange—

For an exclusive service.

For each subscriber or instrument on a two party service.

For each subscriber or instrument on a three or more-party service.

Provided that in the case of such exchanges in the Newcastle district of New South Wales as are determined from time to time by the Department, the annual rental payable by a subscriber for each of the different classes of service within a radius of two miles of the exchange shall be as follows:—

Unit calls—other places.

3. Regulation 36 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting from the proviso all the words from and including the word “calls” to the end of the proviso and inserting in their stead the words “calls may be made between subscribers connected to those exchanges at the unit fee of 13/4d.”.

4. Regulation 37 of the Telephone Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“37. For each effective unit call originating from a subscriber’s telephone, the unit fee specified in the following table shall be payable by the subscriber:—

5. Regulation 57 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting the figure and letter “15s.” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the figures and letters “£1 2s. 6d.”.

6. Regulation 77 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting the table and inserting in its stead the following table:—

Charges for extra words and entries.

7. Regulation 79 of the Telephone Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting the figures and letters “2s. 6d.” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the figures and letters “3s. 9d.”;

(b) by omitting the figures and letters “6s. 3d.” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the figure and letter “10s.”; and

(c)by omitting the figure and letter “5s.” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the figures and letters “7g. 6d.”.

Alteration fee.

8. Regulation 83 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting the figures and letters “2s. 6d.” and inserting in their stead the figure and letter “4s.”.

Unit call.

9. Regulation 127 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the figure and letter “2d.” and inserting in their stead the figure and letter “3d.”.

10. Regulation 128 of the Telephone Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

Trunk line calls.

“128. For each trunk line conversation from a subscriber’s telephone the subscriber may charge the caller the charge payable under Part VII. of these Regulations for the call and in addition a fee of 2d. for the use of the telephone.”.

11. Regulation 138 of the Telephone Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“138.—(1.) Subject to this regulation, the charges payable, for trunk line calls shall be in accordance with the following table:—

“(2.) For trunk line calls between exchanges or offices situated outside the boundaries of a State Capital City network but within 30 miles of the General Post Office, Sydney, or Melbourne, or within 25 miles of the General Post Office, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Hobart, and exchanges or offices situated within a radius of 10 miles of the General Post Office in each such Capital City, the charges prescribed by

the last preceding sub-regulation shall be reduced in accordance with the following table:—

“ (3.) A trunk line may, subject to such conditions as the Department from time to time determines, be set apart for the exclusive use of a subscriber during regular periods and the charges payable by a subscriber for the use of that trunk line shall be such as the Department from time to time determines.”.

12. Regulation 139 of the Telephone Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(1.) The charges for trunk line press conversations shall be the charges prescribed by or under the last preceding regulation for calls between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., excepting that such charges shall apply in respect of each period of five minutes or part thereof.”; and

(b)by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words and figures “between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.”.

Calls to particular persons.

13. Regulation 141 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (2.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(2.) The charge payable for the service specified in the last preceding sub-regulation shall, irrespective of the success or failure of the attempt to obtain the particular person required, be in accordance with the following table:—

14. Regulation 142 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting the figure and letter “3d.” (wherever occurring) and inserting in their stead the figure and letter “6d.”.

15. Regulation 147 of the Telephone Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (1.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“(1.) The charges payable by a subscriber for a private line provided by the Department shall be in accordance with the following table:—
