STATUTORY RULES

REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1961.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1961.

Amendments of the Telegraph Regulations

Commencement.

1. These Regulations shall come into operation on the fourteenth day of February, 1966.

Manner in which telegrams to be written.

2. Regulation 10 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by inserting in sub-regulation (2.), after the symbol “ (£) ”, the words and symbol “, Dollar sign ($) ”.

Certain ordinal and cardinal numbers when written as one word to be counted as one word.

3. Regulation 32 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by adding at the end of paragraph (a) of sub-regulation (1.) the word “ and ”;

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) of that sub-regulation the word “ and ”; and

(c) by omitting paragraph (c) of that sub-regulation.

Counting of groups containing figures, letters and signs.

4. Regulation 38 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the figures, letters and word “ 71/2d., 9d., 1/101/2, or 12/6/8 ” and inserting in their stead the figures, letters, word and symbol “ 4c, 76c or $127.39 ”;

(b) by omitting from that sub-regulation the figures “ 1/101/2 ” (second occurring) and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $127.39 ”; and

(c) by inserting in sub-regulation (4.), after the word “ pounds,”, the words and symbol “ or ‘ $’ representing dollars,”.

Inquiries concerning telegrams and rectification of telegrams.

5. Regulation 42 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (2.) the words “ charge for an ordinary rate telegram of the same length between the telegraph offices concerned ” and inserting in their stead the words “ minimum charge for an ordinary telegram ”.

Sender may request repetition from office of destination.

6. Regulation 55 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (3.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:—

“ (3.) The additional charge for repetition shall be one-half the minimum charge for an ordinary telegram.”.

Multiple telegrams.

7. Regulation 58 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (7.) the word “ Ninepence ” and inserting in its stead the words “ Eight cents ”.

Copies of press telegrams.

8. Regulation 58a of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting the word “ Ninepence ” and inserting in its stead the words “ Eight cents ”.

Telephoning of telegrams by subscribers.

9. Regulation 75 of the Telegraph Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (12.) the word “ Fourpence ” and inserting in its stead the words “ Four cents ”.
