The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Protecting Services for Rural and Regional Australia into the Future) Act 2007.

2Commencement

This Act commences on the day after it receives the Royal Assent.

3Schedule(s)

Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1Amendment

Telecommunications (Consumer Protection and Service Standards) Act 1999

After section 158ZJ

Insert:

158ZJABalance of the Fund must not fall below $2 billion

The Minister must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the sum of:

  1. (a)

    amounts standing to the credit of the Fund Account; and

  2. (b)

    the value of investments of the Fund;

does not fall below $2 billion.
