Taxi and Private Hire Car Regulations2 (Amendment)

The Australian Capital Territory Executive hereby makes the following Regulations under the Motor Traffic Act 1936.

Principal Regulations

1.  In these Regulations, “Principal Regulations” means the Taxi and Private Hire Car Regulations.

Taxi fares

2.  Regulation 24 of the Principal Regulations is amended—

(a)by omitting subregulations (2), (4) and (5) and substituting the following subregulations:

“(2)  For a journey by a taxi, the flag fall or hiring charge is—

(a)if on the journey the taxi is not the subject of a multiple hiring—$2.00; or

(b)if on the journey the taxi is the subject of a multiple hiring—$1.50.

“(3)  Where a journey by a taxi commenced between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the kilometre rate for the journey is—

(a)if on the journey the taxi is not the subject of a multiple hiring—65 cents for each kilometre travelled by the taxi on the journey; or

(b)if on the journey the taxi is the subject of a multiple hiring—48.75 cents for each kilometre travelled by the taxi on the journey.

“(4)  Where a journey by a taxi commenced—

(a)before 6 a.m. or after 9 p.m. on a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday; or

(b)at any time on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday;

the kilometre rate for the journey is—

(c)if on the journey the taxi is not the subject of a multiple hiring—75 cents for each kilometre travelled by the taxi on the journey; or

(d)if on the journey the taxi is the subject of a multiple hiring—56.25 cents for each kilometre travelled by the taxi on the journey.”; and

(b)by omitting from subregulation (6) “25 cents for each minute” and substituting “$17.50 for each hour”.

Schedule 2

3.  Schedule 2 to the Principal Regulations is omitted and the following Schedule substituted:

2.For a journey commencing before 6 a.m. or after 9 p.m. on

a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday—

(a)     single hiring...................................................................................... 75.00 cents
(b)     multiple hiring.................................................................................. 56.25 cents

3.For a journey commencing on a Saturday, Sunday or public

holiday—

(a)     single hiring...................................................................................... 75.00 cents
(b)     multiple hiring............................................................................... 56.25 cents”.
