No. XXXI.

An Act to enable the City Commissioners to

levy an increased City Kate for the current

Half Year and to regulate the amount of such Rate for the next succeeding Half Year.

" and for the appointment of Commissioners in lieu thereof for a	WHEREAS by the Act of Council passed in the last Session of Council " To dissolve the Corporation of the City of Sydney
" limited period" it was enacted that a rate of one shilling in the
pound for the general purposes of the City should in each year in equal half-yearly proportions be collected by the said Commissioners on the whole property in the City according to its assessed value And whereas it is expedient to alter the said rate for the now current and succeeding half year And whereas a rate of sixpence in the pound of the existing assessment has already been raised during the first half
of the present year and it is expedient to authorize the collection of
the sum of one shilling in the pound upon the same assessment for the now current half year And whereas it is expedient to fix the amount to be collected by the said Commissioners during the next succeeding half year Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the
Legislative Council thereof as follows :—
1. The Commissioners for the City of Sydney shall for the general purposes of the said City collect for the now current half year a rate of one shilling in the pound upon the whole property of the said City according to its assessed value under the assessment now in
force.
2. For the half year commencing on the first day of January now next the said Commissioners shall and may collect for the general purposes of the City a rate of so much in the pound under the assess­ ment for the time being in force as the said Commissioners shall estimate to produce a sum of ten thousand pounds and no more.
