Preamble.

\ \ I HEREAS doubts have arisen as to recent Elections of Aldermen

y V and Auditors of the City of Sydney and it is expedient to

remove such doubts and also to make suitable provision for future Elections of Aldermen and Auditors for the said City Be it therefore enaeted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows :—

eight hundved and iU'ty-nine and the Election of Anditors for the said City on the fifteenth day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine are Inireby declared to have been and to be lawful anti valid anything contained in or done under the Electoral Act of 1858 to the contrary notwithstanding.

2. The words “ Electoral Eoll for the time being for the constniction of

Electoral District of Sydney ” used in the fifth section of the Sydney Corporation Act of 1857 and the words “ Electoral Roll ” used in tlic sixth section of the same Act shall as to every futnre Election of Aldermcm and Auditors of the City of Sydney mean and include and b(̂ deemed to have m(!ant and included tlie Electoral Rolls for the Electoral Districts of East Sydney and W('st Sydney as prepared and completed under the Electoi-al Act of 1858 as if the same were om* Roll and all persons named therein shall subject to the provisions of the Sydney Corporation Act afor(‘said b(' (mtitlcxl to vote in the lYavd in respect of which they ar(! qualified Provided always that all sucli Voters shall be Ratc^payers and shall take tin; declaration as such

Erovided also that it shall be lawful for Aiitiimity to prepare

tlie Municipal Council of Sydney as soon as conveniently may be and from year to year to prc])are and revise; for the purposes of such Eh;ctions for the City of Sydney an Electoral Roll for each Ward of' tlie said City containing the names of all Citizens being Ratepayers in eacli such Ward at such Elections as aforesaid according to the fifth and sixth sections of tin; said Sydney Corporation Act and thereupon on the completion of such new separate Eh'ctoral Rolls the said respective sections shall 1)c read and construed as if instead of tlie words “ Electoral Roll for the time being for the Electoral District of Sydney ” in the former and tlie words “ Electoral Roll ” in the latter and the said terms respectively when used or referred to in any other part of the same Act the following words wi're introduced namely “ T'he Electoral Rolls for the several Wards in the Citv of Svdncv.”

3. This Act shall not affect the Electoral Act of 1858 nor Not to prejudice except as herein expressly (uiacted any provision of the Sydney Cor- corpoTatkm'̂ Art poration Act 1857.

4. This Act shall lie styled

and may be cited as the “ Sydney ŝ Hort title.
