An Act to amend certain Acts relative to the coMmŝioLmi.
powers and duties of the Commissioners for the City of Sydney and their Officers. [26 /̂i October, 1855.]

City of Sydney and their Olliccrs Bo it therefore enacted by Ilis Excellency the Governor of New South Wales by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows :—

Sydney or having in his possession for the purpose of selling or other- sale. wise any blown ])riclced or stulFcd veal lamb butcher’s meat or any other article intended for the food of man shall forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.
2. Tlio owner or occupier of any slaughter-house within the Jieit or spleen of

pounds and tlio Inspector of Nuisances or any other officer appointed by the Commissioners for the City for that purpose may and he is hereby empowered at all reasonable times with or without assistants to enter into and inspect any shop building stall or other place kept or used for the sale of butcher’s meat poultry or fish or as a slaughter-house or any place situated within the said City where any such articles intended for sale are kept and to examine any animal carcass meat poultry flesh or fish which may he therein or thereon and in case any animal carcass meat poultry flesh or fish appear to him to he intended for the food of man and to be unfit for such food the same may lie seized and if it appear to any Justice of the Peace upon the evidence of a competent person that any such animal carcass meat poultry flesh or fish is unfit for the food of man he shall order the same to he destroyed or to he so disposed of as to prevent its being exposed for sale or used for such food and the person to whom such animal carcass meat poultry flesh or fish belongs or in whose custody the same is found shall he liable to a penalty not exceeding ten pounds for every animal or carcass fish or piece of meat flesh or fish or any poultry so found and as to which such Justice shall he satisfied that it was intended for the food of man.

| food. | City any adulterated butter meal bread or other article of food know ing the same to be adulterated such person so offending shall upon conviction before any Justice of the Peace for every such offence he liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds and such adulterated article shall he forfeited and disposed of as the Justice shall direct and it shall he lawful for such Justice on the application of the Inspector of Nuisances or other officer acting under this Act s(‘tting forth that he has received information and has just cause to bediove that any adulterated article of food is in the possession of any person for the purpose of being disposed of Avithin the said City to grant a Avarrant to enter upon the premises of such person and to search for and seize such article of food and to forfeit and dispose of the same as to such Justice shall seem proper. |

The said Commissioners are hereby empoAvered to appoint Collectors of Hates and to take security from them for the proper and faithful discharge of their duties and AAdien any distress shall be made for rates the costs mentioned in the Schedule to this Act annexed marked A may be also distrained for and recovered. |
