XTTHEE.EAS, pursuant to tlie “ Public Works Act of 1888,” a rreambic.

certain proposed Public AVork, namely, a “ now Central Police Court,” was, on the twenty-fourth day of July, in the year one tbousaud eight hundred and eigdity-cight, duly submitted and explained by the Secretary for Public; AVorks in the Legislative Assembly, and such work was thereupon referred, on the motion of the said AlinistcM-, to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public AVorks, n bieb Committee reported thereon to the said Assembly in the following terms, namedy:—“ That the Committee consider it expedient that the ]iew Central Police Court he erected as ])roposcd on the plans and explained in the evidence before the Committee jViid whorc'as on the seventh day of November, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, the said Assembly by resolution declarc'd “ that in accordance Avith the lle])ort from the Parliamcutary Standing Committee on Public AVorks it is expc'dient that a ncAV Central Police Court referred to the Committee; for inquiry he erected on the site named in the Committee’s report, and at a total estimated cost of forty-eight thousand pounds.” And the said resolution Avas notified in the Gazette on the eighth day of November, in the said year. And Avhereas, jmrsuant to the said Act, it has become the duty of the Minister to introduce a Bill into the said ^Vssemhly to sanction tin; carrying out of such Avork as aforesaid; B eit therefore enacted by the Queen’s Alost Excellent Alajesty, by and Avith the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of N cav South AVales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of tlu> same, as folloAvs ;—■

1. This Act may he cited as the “ Sydney Central Police Court Short tuio.

the duties of the said Minister. And sucli Minister or Member shall for the purposes of this Act and the “ Public Works Act of 1888 ” he deemed and taken to he the “ Constructing Authority ” authorized to enter into contracts, and to exercise all powers, do all acts and things, and he res^ionsible in respect of all obligations and liabilities which can he done or incurred by a “ Constructing Authority ” under or pursuant to this Act or the said Public IWrks Act, so far as may he necessary for the carrying out of the work hereby sanctioned. Tlic plans of such Work with the alteration recommended by the Committee in this Act referred to are the plans marled “ Sydney Central Police Court,” signed by the Secretary for Public Works and countersigned by the Colonial Architect and deposited in the office of the said Secretary for Public M’orks.

SCHEDULE.

N^cw Central Police Court, Sydnei/.

Erection of bnildinrrs for Central Police Court business, on site known as Hardio’s Mill, formerly a tannery, having frontage of seventy-two feet to Liverpool-street, running back seventy-eight feet, opening on to ground two hundred and six feet by one hundred and eighty-two feet, with frontage of ninety i'eet to Union-lane, and one hundred and sixty-one feet to a right-of-way ten feet wide off Union-lane, with other right-of-way into George-street.

The buildings comprise three Courts, accommodation for witnesses. Magistrates rooms, quarters for caretakers, lockup with requisite cell and other accommodation, closets, urinals, and all necessary appurtenances.

The buildings also include barrack accommodation for constables, with library, smoking-room, kitchen, and all necessary ap])urtenances.

A complete system of drainage for the whole of the premises is provided for in

the proposed work.
