the Secretary for Public Works to introduce a Pill into the said Assembly to sanction the carrying out of the said work; Pc it therefore enacted by the King’s Most Excelhait Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wah.'s in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—•
1. This Act maybe cited as the “ Sydney Abattoir Construction short tiiio.
Act, 1906.”
2. Tlic carrying out of the works, more particularly described W ork sanctioned
in the Schedule to this Act, is hereby sanctioned, and the Secretary for Public AYorks, or the member of tlu' Executive Council for the time being ])crforming the duties of the said Secretary, is hereby authorised to undertake and carry out the said works, subject to the provisions of this Act, and for that purpose sliall l)c and shall have the powers and duties of a Constructing Authority ” within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.
3. The plan of the said works is the plan marked “ New Plan of work.
Abattoirs, llomebush Pay,” signed by the Secretary for Public Works, and countersigned by the Government Architect, and deposited in tbc public office of the said Secretary.
4. The cost of carrying out the said works, estimated at one Cou. and iiow
hundred and eighty-eight thousand four hundred and thirty-three pounds, exclusive of the cost of the ^mrehase or resumption of land, may be defrayed from such loan votes as are now, or may hereafter be, applicable to that purpose, and shall not, under any circumstances, exceed the estimated cost by more than ten per centum.
SC H E D U L E .
T h e work to bo carried out includes ; —Three separat(! slaughter halls, eoinprising one for
eatthi, one for sheep and calves, and one for pigs (the slaughter hall for cattle contains twenty-four double killing pens, provided w ith appliances for treating forty-eight cattle a t one tim e; the hall for sheep and calves is provided with sixteen separate slaughtering and dressing pens ; and the pig slaughter-house w ith twelve dre.ssing and killing pens, fitted w ith the necessary appliances for scalding and washing) ; covered stock-yards ; open stock-yards ; works for the disposal and treatm ent of blood, offal, and other by products of s laugh ter; desiccators, and a building fitted w ith .special appliances for tlu; preparation of tripe and the cleaning of in te stin es; two isolated yards for suspected animals, and a slaughter-hous<> for diseased beasts ; the erection of suitable stable buildings, urinal, closet, aiid lavatory blocks, adm inistrative and other buildings, also waiting-rooms and refreshm ent rooms and residence for superintendent or general inspector; railway loop connecting the main ^Vostern and N orthern lines, w ith railway sidings and platforms ; a channel one hundred and fifty feet wide and twelve feet deej>, with the nccessaiy wharfs for w ater passage, landing-stage, and other appliances ; road approaches; works for the trea tm en t of sewerage and supply of w ater ; fencing to resumed a r e a ;— subject to such deviations and modifications as may be considered desirable by the Constructing A uthority .
