An Act to authorize the appointment of a

sixth Judge of the Supreme Court. [18th

May, 1887.]

WH E R E A S it has become necessary for t h e Jus t i ce in t h e various jur isdic t ions of t h e Supreme Cour t t h a t a s ix th J u d g e of such Cour t should be appointed in addit ion to t h e
Chief Ju s t i ce and four Pu i sne J u d g e s as now b y l aw cons t i tu ted Be i t therefore enacted b y the Queen ' s Most Exce l l en t Majes ty by and wi th t he advice and consent of t h e Legislat ive Counci l a n d Legis la t ive
Assembly of N e w South Wales in P a r l i a m e n t assembled a n d by t h e
au thor i ty of t h e same as follows :—
1. I t shall be lawful for t h e Governor w i th t he advice of t he Execu t i ve Council to appoin t in H e r Majes ty ' s n a m e b y Commission
unde r t h e Grea t Seal of t h e Colony in addi t ion to t h e Chief J u s t i c e
a n d four P u i s n e J u d g e s of t he S u p r e m e Court as now b y law con­
s t i tu ted some fit and proper person and w h e t h e r barr is ters or not any
law to t h e cont rary no twi ths t and ing to be a J u d g e of t h e said Cour t
A n d the person so appoin ted shall from t h e da te of his a p p o i n t m e n t he a J u d g e of t h e said Cour t to al l in ten t s and for all purposes whatsoever .
2. The J u d g e appointed under th is A c t shall be paid a salary a t
t he year ly ra te of two thousand six hund red pounds and such salary
shal l be secured a n d be payable in l ike m a n n e r as t h e salaries of t h e
presen t J u d g e s of t h e Supreme Cour t a re secured and m a d e payable .

pension or a l lowance on the same condit ions and chargeable on the same fund as b y law provided in t h e case of t h e o the r Pu i sne J u d g e s

of t h e said Court .

4. The J u d g e so appoin ted shall be l iable to remova l in such

m a n n e r and upon such grounds only as t he p resen t J u d g e s of t h e

said Cour t a re by law liable to removal .

5. This A c t may be cited as the " Supreme Cour t (s ixth J u d g e )

Ac t of 1887 ."
