Rules 1997

The Judges of the Supreme Court make the following Rules:

1. Object

The object of these Rules is to make miscellaneous amendments to the Principal Rules.

2. Authorising provisions

These Rules are made under section 25 of the powers.

3. Commencement

These Rules come into operation on the day on which section 41 of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996 comes into operation.

4. Principal Rules

In these Rules, the Adoption Rules 19961 are called the Principal Rules.

5. Statute law revision

(1) In Rules 8(1)(b), 11(c) and 18(2)(a) of the

Principal Rules, for "Register of Births" substitute "Register maintained under Part 7 of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996".

(2) For Rule 31 of the Principal Rules substitute—

"31. Application for a copy of a birth certificate

etc.

A request under section 92(7) of the Act by the Director-General for a copy of an extract from or a certified copy of a birth certificate or the entry relating to that birth in the Register maintained under Part 7 of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996 shall be made by application to the Court.".

(3) In Form 2 to the Principal Rules, for "Register of

Births" (wherever occurring) substitute "Register maintained under Part 7 of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1996".
