s1 2 s3 Supreme Court Amendment (No. 1) No. 97, 1996 ˙ Short title 1. This rule may be cited as the Supreme Court Amendment Rule (No. 1) 1996 . ˙ Rules amended 2. This rule amends the Rules of the Supreme Court . ˙ Amendment of o 40 3. Order 40, after rule 55— insert— ‘ 7. Dispensing with rules of evidence ˙ ‘ Court may dispense with rules of evidence ‘ 56.(1) The court may, at any time during a proceeding, dispense with the rules of evidence relating to the proof of a fact if the court considers that strict proof of the fact might cause unnecessary or unreasonable expense, delay or inconvenience in the proceeding or that the fact is not seriously in dispute. ‘ (2) Without limiting subrule (1), the court may dispense with the rules about proof of handwriting, documents, authority or identity. ‘ (3) This rule applies regardless of the importance of the fact sought to be proved.’.
