840 Supreme Court Acts Amendment Act 1985, No. 51 BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in Pa, liament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Supreme Court Acts Amendment Act 1985. 2. Collective title. The Supreme Court Acts 1861-1983 may, consequent upon the passing of this Act, be cited as the Supreme Court Acts 1861-1985. 3. Amendment of SupremeCourt Act of 1867 as amended . Section 39A of the Supreme Court Act of 1867 as amended is amended by- (a) omitting subsection (1) and substituting the following subsection:- "(1) The Supreme Court shall have- a Senior Master; and one master or such greater number of masters as the Governor in Council from time to time thinks fit. A reference in this Act, or any other Act or in any regulation, rule, Order in Council or other instrument made pursuant to any Act or in any document to a master shall, unless the context indicates to the contrary, be construed to 'include reference to the Senior Master and any master.' ; (b) omitting subsection (3) and substituting the following subsection:- "(3) Persons qualified for appointment as masters are- (a) in the case of appointment as a master other than Senior Master, District Court Judges; barristers of the Supreme Court of not less than 5 years' standing; or solicitors of the Supreme Court of not less than 5 years' standing; (b) in the case of appointment as Senior Master, a master; or a person qualified under paragraph (a) for appointment as a master."; (c) omitting subsection (4) and substituting the following subsection:- "(4) The Senior Master shall have seniority ahead of any other master.
Supreme Court Acts Amendment Act 1985, No. 51 841 A master, other than the Senior Master, shall have seniority according to the date on which his appointment as master takes effect and where the appointment of two or more masters (other than the Senior Master) take effect on the same date, the seniority of each of them shall be such as is assigned to him by the Governor in Council.".
