An Act to amend the Summary Offences Act 1988 to prohibit advertising

for prostitutes. [Assented to 21 December 1988]

Summary Offences (Prostitution) Amendment 1988

The Legislature of New South Wales enacts:

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Summary Offences (Prostitution)

Amendment Act 1988.

Commencement

  1. This Act commences on a day to be appointed by proclamation.

Amendment of Summary Offences Act 1988 No. 25

3. The Summary Offences Act 1988 is amended by inserting after

section 18 the following section:

Advertising for prostitutes

18A. (1) A person shall not, in any manner, publish or cause to be

published an advertisement for a prostitute.

Maximum penalty: 10 penalty units or imprisonment for 3 months.

(2) In this section, "advertisement for a prostitute" means an

advertisement that indicates, or that can be reasonably taken to indicate,

that—

(a) employment for a prostitute is or may be available; or

(b)

a person is required for employment as a prostitute or to act as a prostitute; or

(c)

a person is required for employment in a position that involves, or may involve, acting as a prostitute.
