Summary Offences (Dog Theft) Amendment Act 2022

An Act to amend the Summary Offences Act 1953.

The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows:

Part 1Preliminary1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Summary Offences (Dog Theft) Amendment Act 2022.

2Commencement

This Act comes into operation on a day to be fixed by proclamation.

Part 2Amendment of Summary Offences Act 19533Insertion of section 47A

After section 47 insert:

47A—Dog theft

A person who steals a dog, or has unlawfully in their possession a stolen dog knowing that the dog has been stolen, is guilty of an offence.

Maximum penalty: $50 000 or imprisonment for 2 years.
