This Act may be cited as the
Summary Offences (Consumption of Dogs and Cats) Amendment Act 2004 .
This Act will come into operation on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
In this Act, a provision under a heading referring to the amendment of a specified Act amends the Act so specified.
After section 9A insert:
10—Offence to consume etc dogs or cats
(1) A person who knowingly—
(a) kills or otherwise processes a dog or cat for the purpose of human consumption; or
(b) supplies to another person a dog or cat (whether alive or not), or meat from a dog or cat, for the purpose of human consumption; or
(c) consumes meat from a dog or cat,
is guilty of an offence.
Maximum penalty: $1 250.
(2) In this section—
cat means an animal of the speciesFelis catus ;
dog means an animal of the speciesCanis familiaris ;
