1.Objective
The objective of these Regulations is to extend the operation of the Road Safety (Traffic) Regulations 1988[1] for the period specified in regulation 3.
2.Authorising provisions
These Regulations are made under sections 5 and 28 of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994.
3.Extension of operation
The operation of the Road Safety (Traffic) Regulations 1988 is extended for the period beginning on the day on which they would otherwise be revoked by virtue of section 5 of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994 and ending on 8 February 1999.

1. General Information
The Subordinate Legislation (Road Safety) (Traffic) Regulations 1988 - Extension of Operation) Regulations 1997, S.R. No. 170/1997 were made on 16 December 1997 by the Governor in Council on the certificate and recommendation of the Minister for Roads and Ports under sections 5 and 28 of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994, No. 104/1994 and came into operation on 16 December 1997.
The Subordinate Legislation (Road Safety) (Traffic) Regulations 1988 - Extension of Operation) Regulations 1997 will sunset 10 years after the day of making on 16 December 2007 (see section 5 of the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994).
2. Table of Amendments
There are no amendments made to the Subordinate Legislation (Road Safety) (Traffic) Regulations 1988 - Extension of Operation) Regulations 1997 by statutory rules, subordinate instruments and Acts.
