REGULATION UNDER THE STUDENT ASSISTANCE ACT 1973*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Student Assistance Act 1973.

AMENDMENTS OF THE STUDENT ASSISTANCE REGULATIONS 

Full-time work load

Regulation 44 of the Student Assistance Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting: in sub-regulation (3) “or where sub-regulation (3a) applies for each half of that relevant year” after “three-quarters of the amount of work for the relevant year” ; and

(b) by inserting after sub-regulation (3) the following sub-regulations:

“(3a) This sub-regulation applies in the case of a student engaged in full-time studies in relation to a course of study at Macquarie University for the degree of Bachelor of Arts who undertakes or proposes to undertake in the relevant year work in a unit or unite of that course the program of study for which can be completed in 1 semester of the relevant year.

“(3B) For the purposes of sub-regulation (3)—

(a) three-quarters of the amount of work for the relevant year for a student engaged in full-time studies in relation to a course of study at Macquarie University for the degree of Bachelor of Arts is the amount of work entitling that student to 17 of the credit points that under the Bachelor Degree Regulations of that University a candidate is required to obtain in order to complete a program of study to qualify him for that degree; and

(b) three-quarters of the amount of work for half of the relevant year for a student referred to in sub-regulation (3a) is the amount of work entitling such a student to 8½ of the credit points referred to in paragraph (a).”.
