Student Assistance Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Student Assistance Act 1973.

Suspension during temporary discontinuation

1. Regulation 61 of the Student Assistance Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (1) and substituting the following sub-regulations:

“(1) Subject to sub-regulation (1a), a holder who desires to discontinue temporarily his studies as a full-time student in his post-graduate course may apply to an authorized person for the suspension of his Award for a specified period not exceeding 12 months.

“(1a) Sub-regulation (1) does not apply to the holder of a Research Award, or an Advanced Education. Institution Award in respect of a postgraduate course of research, who wishes to apply for the suspension of his Award in order to undertake, as part of his studies in his post-graduate course, research work outside Australia.”.

Application

2. The Student Assistance Regulations as amended by regulation 1 apply in respect of any period commencing on or after 1 January 1980.
