s1 2 s5 Stock (Infected Area) No. 350, 1994 ˙ Short title 1. This notice may be cited as the Stock (Infected Area) Notice 1994 . ˙ Infected area 2. The part of the State south of 24° south latitude and east of 150° east longitude is a virus pneumonia infected area (the “infected area” ). ˙ Application 3. This notice applies to horses, donkeys and mules. ˙ Movement of horses, donkeys and mules 4.(1) The movement of horses, donkeys and mules into, within or out of the infected area is prohibited. (2) However, subsection (1) does not apply to a movement within the infected area in the following circumstances— (a) if it is necessary to move a racehorse or harness horse to a training facility or area usually used by the owner or person in charge of the horse for training purposes; (b) if the horse, donkey or mule is absent from the place where it is usually kept for not more than 7 days—to return it to the place where it is usually kept; (c) for receiving treatment at a veterinary hospital. ˙ Treatment of horses, donkeys and mules 5.(1) This section applies if— (a) a horse, donkey or mule dies in the infected area; or (b) a person suspects a horse, donkey or mule in the infected area is infected with virus pneumonia. (2) If subsection (1)(a) applies, the owner or person in charge of the animal must—
s5 3 s5 Stock (Infected Area) No. 350, 1994 (a) immediately isolate other stock from the carcass; and (b) immediately notify an inspector or veterinary surgeon of the animal’s death; and (c) allow an inspector or veterinary surgeon access to the carcass to enable it to be examined and tested. (3) If subsection (1)(b) applies, the owner or person in charge of the animal must— (a) immediately isolate the animal from other stock; and (b) immediately notify an inspector or veterinary surgeon of the suspected infection; and (c) allow an inspector or veterinary surgeon access to the animal to enable it to be examined, tested and treated.
