t h a t por t Be i t therefore enac ted by H i s Excel lency t h e Governor of
N e w Sou th Wales w i th t h e advice a n d consent of t h e Legis la t ive Council thereof as follows :—
1. I t shall be lawful for the Governor of th i s Colony w i t h t h e
advice of H i s Execu t ive Counci l to m a k e or cause a r r angemen t s to be
m a d e w i t h t h e Governments of t h e o ther Aus t ra l a s i an Colonies or any
of t h e m for t h e es tab l i shment of a m o n t h l y or ha l f -monthly Pos ta l S team Communica t ion wi th Grea t Br i ta in as aforesaid a n d as to t h e pro por t ion of t he expense thereof to be borne by th is Colony du r ing a n y t e r m no t exceeding five years provided t h a t such propor t ion shal l
n o t in any one year exceed t h e s u m of t w e n t y thousand pounds and
also to jo in or cause t h e Pos tmas t e r Genera l of th i s Colony to jo in in any cont rac t w i t h any person or persons for any t e r m no t exceeding five years for t he conveyance of t h e Pos t Office Mai ls in m a n n e r aforesaid be tween Grea t Br i t a in and t h e said Colonies respectively and also in concur rence wi th t h e Governmen t s of the said o the r Colonics or any of t h e m to en te r in to or cause to be entered in to such a r range men t s as m a y be requi red to be m a d e wi th H e r Majesty 's I m p e r i a l Governmen t or w i th t h e Pos tmas t e r Genera l of E n g l a n d in respect of any such cont rac t of conveyance and t h e t e r m s and condit ions thereof and wi th respect to t he propor t ion of t h e expense of such conveyance to be borne b y Grea t Br i t a in a n d in l ike m a n n e r to m a k e or cause to
be m a d e in concurrence wi th t h e said o ther Colonial Governmen t s or
any of t h e m a r r angemen t s w i th H e r Majesty 's Imper i a l Gove rnmen t
as to t h e d is t r ibu t ion be tween Great Br i t a in a n d t h e said Colonies respectively of t he a m o u n t s to be received by the Pos tmas te r s Genera l of E n g l a n d and of t h e said Colonics respect ively for postages on all le t ters packe ts and parcels which shal l be thereafter conveyed by post between Grea t Br i t a in and the said Colonies or any of t hem.
2. I n default of and u n t i l t he m a k i n g of any such co-operative a r r angemen t s with t h e several other Aus t ra las ian Colonies or a n y of t h e m for t h e purposes aforesaid it shal l be lawful for the Governor of th i s Colony wi th t h e advice of H i s Execu t ive Counci l to enter i n to cont rac t s wi th any companies or individuals for t he conveyance of Pos t Office Mai ls by s team to a n d from Singapore once in every m o n t h for any t e r m of years n o t exceeding five provided t h a t t h e a m o u n t of p a y m e n t to be m a d e out of t h e Pub l ic Revenues of th is Colony u p o n any such cont rac t shall no t in any one year exceed t h e s u m of twen ty - five t housand pounds nor shal l in any por t ion of a year exceed a s u m at t h e r a t e of twenty-five t housand pounds for t h e whole year and also
to en te r in to or cause to be en te red in to such a r r angemen t s as m a y

such case be requi red to be m a d e wi th H e r Majesty 's I m p e r i a l Govern
m e n t or w i th t h e Pos tmas te r Genera l of E n g l a n d as to t he d is t r ibut ion
be tween Grea t Br i t a in and th is Colony of t h e a m o u n t to be received by t h e Pos tmas te r s Genera l of E n g l a n d and of th i s Colony for postages on all l e t te rs packets and parcels wh ich shal l be conveyed be tween Grea t Br i ta in a n d th is Colony by way of Singapore as aforesaid.
