George VI. An Act to increase the salaries of the Judges of

Supreme Court and District Courts and of certain other judges and of the holders of certain other statutory offices; for this purpose to amend the Constitution Act, 1902, the Supreme Court and Circuit Courts Act, 1900, the District Courts Act, 1912, the Public Service Act, 1902, the Western Lands Act of 1901, the Valuation of Land Act, 1916, the Industrial Arbitration Act, 1940, and certain other Acts in certain respects; to repeal the Statutory Salaries Adjustment Act, 1948; and for purposes connected therewith. J D by and with the advice and consent of the Legis­ lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :—■

1 . This Act may be cited as the

‘Statutory Salaries Short

Adjustment Act, 1951.”

2 . (1) The salary payable to the holder of an office Salaries

specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this °pp°*e” *

(2)

This section shall be deemed to have

commenced upon the twentieth day of May, one thousand

nine hundred and fifty.

3 . (1) The salary payable to the holder of an office specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to specified in

this Act pursuant to the enactment specified opposite

that office in the second column of that Schedule, is,

"

subject as hereinafter provided, increased to the amount specified opposite that office in the third column of that Schedule.

(2) (a) Where the salary of the holder of an office specified in the Second Schedule to this Act is less than one thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds per annum such salary shall upon any variation in the basic wage taking effect be increased or reduced by the amount calculated on an annual basis to the nearest pound by which the basic wage is increased or reduced as the case may be upon any such variation.

(b) Where any such salary is, by the operation of this subsection, increased beyond one thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds per annum the increase or the portion thereof which increases such salary beyond the said amount and any subsequent increase shall not take effect until the first day of July next following such increase.

(3) Where the salary of the holder of an office

specified in the Second Schedule to this Act is in excess

of one thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds and is

* 0. 3Q, 1951. less than four thousand five hundred pounds per annum such salary shall as from the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-two, and from the first day of July in each subsequent year be increased or reduced, as the case may be, by the amount calculated on an annual basis to the nearest pound by which the basic wage has been increased or reduced during the preceding period of twelve months. This subsection shall not operate to increase any such salary beyond four thousand five hundred pounds per annum.

(4) In this section “ basic wage” means the basic wage for adult males assessed on the index number for Sydney contained in the Retail Price Index Numbers published from time to time by or by the direction of the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration.

(5) For the purposes of this section the salary of the Valuer-General shall be deemed to include the amount paid to him as Land Resumption Officer to the Government.

(6) This section shall be deemed to have commenced upon the first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-one.
