STATUTE LAW (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1996

No 30—PROCLAMATION

(L.S.) GORDON SAMUELS, Governor.

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 (2) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1996, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 28 February 1997 as the day on which Schedule 1.6 to that Act commences.

Signed and sealed at Sydney, this 26th day of February 1997.

By His Excellency’s Command,

Andrew Refshauge

Deputy Premier and Minister for Health.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to commence the provisions of the Statute Law

(Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1996 that amend section 18 of the Chiropractors and

Osteopaths Act 1991.

The latter Act regulates the registration of chiropractors and osteopaths. Section 18 provides for the deregistration of registered practitioners who fail to pay the annual roll fee on or before the prescribed date in each year. However, practitioners are notified of the consequences of failure to pay by the prescribed date and are given a “second chance” before their names are removed from the register. The amendments clarify the operation of section 18 by referring to the first date as the due date and the “second chance” date as the final date.
