STATUTE LAW (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1996

No 30—PROCLAMATION

(L.S.) G. SAMUELS, Governor.

I, the Honourable Gordon Samuels, AC, Governor of the State of New South Wales, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of section 2 (2) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1996, do, by this my Proclamation, appoint 1 December 1996 as the day on

which Schedule 1.22 to that Act commences.

Signed and sealed at Sydney, this 6th day of November 1996.

By His Excellency’s Command,

M Knight

Minister for Roads.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Proclamation is to commence a provision of the Stature Law

(Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1996 that amends section 3 (2) (d) of the Motor Vehicles
Taxation Act 1988.

The Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1988 provides for the imposition of motor vehicle tax on the registration of motor vehicles. The Act provides for a lower rate of tax if a motor vehicle is used substantially for private purposes and in the opinion of the Roads and Traffic Authority its use for any other purpose is minimal.

The amendment removes a distinction that prevents certain vehicles (which are used for substantially private purposes) from being treated as private vehicles.
