An Act to repeal certain Acts and amend certain other Acts in various respects and for the purpose of effecting statute law revision; and to make certain savings and validate certain matters. [Assented to, 10th December, 1984.]

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
Short title.
1. This Act may be cited as the “Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amend
ments) Act, 1984”,
Commencement.
(1) Except as provided by this section, this Act shall commence on the date of assent to this Act.
2.
(2) Schedules 14 and 15, and section 5 in its application to those Schedules, shall commence on such day or days as may be appointed by the Governor in respect thereof and as may be notified by proclamation published in the Gazette.
(3) So much of Schedule 16 as relates to the Totalizator (Off- course Betting) Act, 1964, and section 5 in its application thereto, shall, if the date of assent to this Act is earlier than the day appointed and notified under section 2 (2) of the Tourism Commission Act, 1984, commence on the day so appointed and notified.

(2) The Director-General of Technical and Further Educa tion may, with the approval of the Director-General of Education and on such terms and conditions as may be arranged, make use of the services of an officer or temporary employee of the Education Teaching Service.
(3) The Director-General of Education or the Director- General of Technical and Further Education may, with the approval of the appropriate Department Head within the meaning of the Public Service Act, 1979, of a government department or administra tive office and on such terms and conditions as may be arranged, make use of the services of any staff of the department or office,
(4) The services of a person may not be made use of under
subsection (3) for—
| (a) | a continuous period in excess of 12 months; or |
| (b) | 2 or more periods that together are in excess of 12 months in any period of 2 years, |
except with the concurrence of the Commission and the Public Service
Board.

Effect of alterations in penalties.
45, (1) Where an Act or instrument made under an Act increases the penalty or maximum penalty for an offence, the penalty or maximum penalty as increased applies only to offences committed after the commencement of the provision of the Act or instrument increasing the penalty or maximum penalty.

Any regulation purporting to have been made under the Optometrists Act. 1930, before the date of assent to this Act shall, if it was not validly made, be. on and from that date, deemed to have been validly made and to be as valid and effectual as it would have been if the amendment made by section 5 and Schedule 10 had been in force when it purported to be made.

the Reprints Act, 1972) contained in an Act shall, if the amending provision has commenced before the date of assent to this Act, be deemed to have taken effect as from the commencement of the amending provision.
