STATES GRANTS (SPECIAL ASSISTANCE)

An
Act to grant Financial Assistance to Queensland and South Australia.
BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, the
Senate and the House of Representatives of Australia, as follows:—
Short
title.
1. This Act may be cited as the States
Grants (Special Assistance) Act 1974.
Commencement.
2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives
the Royal Assent.
Payment
of financial assistance to a State.
3. (1) Subject to this section,
there is payable during the year that commenced on 1 July 1974, for the purpose
of financial assistance—
(a) to Queensland—the
sum of $24,750,000; and
(b) to South
Australia—the sum of $23,500,000.
(2) A sum payable to a
State referred to in sub-section (1) shall be reduced by the sum of any amounts
paid to that State under section 4 of the States
Grants (Special Assistance) Act 1973.
(3) Payments for the purposes of
this sub-section shall be made in such amounts and at such times at the
Treasurer determines.
Payments
for the year 1975-76.
4. The Treasurer may, during the period of 6 months commencing on 1
July 1975, make payments to a State referred to in sub-section 3(1), for the
purposes of financial assistance, of amounts not exceeding in the whole a sum
equal to one-half of the amount specified in that subsection in relation to
that State.
