I, WILLIAM PATRICK DEANE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following regulations under the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance) Act 1996.

1.   Name of regulations

1.1   These regulations are the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance 1997–2000) Amendment Regulations 1998 (No. 1).

2.   Commencement

2.1   These regulations commence on gazettal.

3.   Amendment

3.1   The States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance 1997–2000) Regulations are amended as set out in these regulations.

4.   Regulation 1 (Citation)

4.1   Omit the regulation, substitute:

Name of regulations

 “1. These regulations are the States Grants (Primary and Secondary Education Assistance 1997–2000) Regulations 1997.”.

5.   Regulation 2 (Definition)

5.1   Omit “these Regulations”, substitute “these regulations”.

6.   Regulation 3 (Cost supplementation—recurrent grants)

6.1   Omit the regulation, substitute:

Cost supplementation — recurrent grants

 “3. For paragraph 78 (1) (a) of the Act:

• (a)

  the number 1.074 is to be used for the variation of amounts of recurrent grants set out in the Schedules to the Act for the 1997 program year; and

• (b)

  the number 1.046 is to be used for the variation of amounts of recurrent grants set out in those Schedules for the 1998 program year.

Note 1   The 1997 program year is the calendar year 1997.

Note 2   The 1998 program year is the calendar year 1998.”.

7.   Regulation 4 (Cost supplementation—capital grants)

7.1   Omit the regulation, substitute:

Cost supplementation — capital grants

 “4. For paragraph 78 (1) (b) of the Act:

• (a)

  the number 1.006 is to be used for the variation of amounts of capital grants set out in the Schedules to the Act for the 1997 program year; and

• (b)

  the number 1.014 is to be used for the variation of amounts of capital grants set out in those Schedules for the 1998 program year.

Note 1   The 1997 program year is the calendar year 1997.

Note 2   The 1998 program year is the calendar year 1998.”.
