Migrating Award variation application pages

You will first need access to the “Mirror site”: \\sydpdev02\asset

Finding the pages

The page you will need to use is here. You’ll need to copy the link and paste it into your browser. Be patient, it will take a while to load.

file://sydpdev02/asset/awards-and-agreements/awards/award-modernisation/modern-award-variation-applications.html

And on the current (D9) website it’s here:

with the most recent ones, and check the two pages against each other find the next one that’s missing from D9. Note that not ALL applications are published, so the case numbers may not necessarily be sequential.

Content migration

  1. Go to the mirror site and find the page of the case you are migrating by clicking on the case number in the table on this page (you will have to copy the link and paste it into your browser): \\sydpdev02\asset\awards-and-agreements\awards\award-modernisation\modern-award-variation-applications.html

  2. Once you’re on the page, copy the Award title and case number

Go to the new website (D9):

  1. Hover over “Content” then go down to “Add content” and click on “Simple page” in the drop down list that appears

  2. Paste the Award title and case number in the “Title” field of the new page

  3. Replace the year in the title with the word “variation”

  4. Put the case number in brackets

Page title should look like this: Oil Refining and Manufacturing Award variation (AM2021/80)

  1. Using the information on the old (D7) page, create an introduction in the format below and add it to the “Introduction” field on the new (D9) webpage:

[Applicant] have/has applied to change the [brief description of clause] in/of the [name of award].

Eg:APESMA (Professionals Australia) have applied to change the coverage clause and related classifications of the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020.

  1. Copy the description on the old (D7) webpage and paste it into the “Markup” field on the new (D9) webpage.

  2. Remove the link to the Award. Note that the Award title should be bold NOT italicised.

The name of the Act should be italicised.

Example: The application has been made by APESMA (Professionals Australia) to vary the coverage clause and related classifications of the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020, under section 158 of the Fair Work Act 2009 in relation to translators and interpreters.

  1. Select the section of the Act and use the “Styles” drop down to apply the “Fairwork Act” style. Be careful NOT to include the spaces on either side of the text.

Note: you won’t see a difference on the page when it’s in draft.

  1. Add the email address and link to the information note from this document (not from the D7 webpage)

DO NOT copy the line that mentions there being a link below, or the line that includes the information note from the webpage. Instead paste this below the text:

Please direct any submissions or enquiries to [email protected].

Read further information for parties (pdf).

  1. Edit the link to the information note to remove the domain ( should end up looking like this:

    /documents/awards/resources/information-note-applications-vary-modern-awards.pdf

  2. Underneath this box, click on Add HTML to create a new content box

  3. Copy the table from the old (D7) website and paste it into the “Markup” field in the new Content box.

Note: I’ve found that copying from the bottom up works better, but make sure you include the header row.

  4. Remove the links from each of the column headings by clicking in it and using the “remove link” button.

  5. Change the header of “Date uploaded” to “Published date”.

  6. Add “Fair Work Commission” to any blank cells in the “Organisation” column.

Fixing the links

  1. Edit each link to remove the domain and change “awardmod” to “awards”.

  2. Make sure there is only one “documents/” left in the link.

You’ll need to update the file paths based on these patterns:

Change from Change to
/documents/awards/variations/2010-2019/
/documents/awards/variations/2020/
/documents/awards/variations/2021/
/documents/awards/variations/2022/
/documents/decisionssigned/html/ No change
/documents/awardsandorders/html/ No change

Note – if you have a lot of links you can change the text format to “Full html” using the drop down at the bottom of that content section. Then click on the Source button, and edit it in the Source code.

You can copy the code into Dreamweaver, another html editing program, or Notepad, and use “Find and replace” to remove the domain, replace “awardmod” with “awards” and remove duplicate “/documents”.

Adding the page to the IA and testing the links

  1. Scroll back to the top of the page, then in the right hand column, click on the arrow next to “Menu settings”. Tick the box marked “Provide a menu link”.

  2. Go down to the box marked “Parent link” and type over the <main navigation> with “Applications to create…” then click on the option that appears.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page, make sure the “Save as” option is “Draft” and click on “Save”

  4. Review the page, and make sure all the links work.

Hiding the page from the menu

  1. Hover over “Structure” (in the menu bar at the top of the page) and then down to “Menus”, then click on “Main navigation”. Wait for it load fully, then use Ctrl + F to find the page – using the case number is the easiest way

  2. Click on Edit, then untick “o Enabled”. Scroll down and click on “Save”.

  3. Go back to your new page, refresh it, and make sure it is now NOT appearing in the menu.

  4. Open the variations-awards-state-ref-enterprise-docs-all  spreadsheet and filter by your case number.

  5. Make sure that all the documents in the spreadsheet are appearing on the new page.

  6. If any are missing you will need to manually add the details to the page. Files should be added in order of Published date (Date uploaded, in the spreadsheet.)

Remember to remove the domain and update the pattern of the URL when you are adding links from the spreadsheet, otherwise the links will not work.

Adding the page to the table on the landing page

  1. Go to the current (D9) website here:

    >

Follow the pattern to add the new page to the table in order of the case number. So the ones you’re adding a likely to be further down the page.

  2. Make sure the link to the new page is relative – so it should be a node number, not a URL. The easiest way to do this is to click on the Add link button, type the case number into the link field – it’s a part of the page title, so that should show up and you can select that as an option. Once you click Save it will convert it to the node number.

  3. Publish!
