REGULATION UNDER THE SPIRITS ACT l906-1935.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Spirits Act 1906-1935.

Amendment of the Spirits Regulations.

Regulation 17 of the Spirits Regulations is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

“17. The standards for the classes of methylated spirits called Industrial Spirits and Mineralized Spirits shall be as follows:—

Industrial Spirits.

The spirit before methylation shall be of not less than 65 degrees overproof and shall be methylated by the addition of—

(a)One-quarter of one per cent. of wood naphtha or methyl alcohol, one-half of one per cent. of pyridine and one-half of one per cent. of any one of the following substances:—Petrol, gasoline, petroleum benzine, petroleum naphtha, coal tar naphtha or shale naphtha; or

(b)One-quarter of one per cent. of wood naphtha or methyl alcohol, one-quarter of one per cent. of pyridine, two to twenty per cent. of benzine and one-quarter of one per cent. of a solution of aniline violet or blue dye.

Mineralized Spirits.

The spirit before methylation shall be of a strength of not less than 65 degrees overproof and shall be methylated by the addition of one-quarter of one per cent. of wood naphtha or methyl alcohol, one-twentieth of one per cent. of pyridine and not less than two per cent. of any one of the following substances:—Petrol, gasoline, petroleum benzine, petroleum naphtha, coal tar naphtha, shale naphtha, benzol or like substances.”.
