An Act to increase the Rate of Unemployment Benefit and of Sickness Benefit referred to in section 112 of the Social Services Act 1947–1971.

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title and citation.

1.—(1.) This Act may be cited as the Social Services Act 1972.

(2.) The Social Services Act 1947–1971, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Social Services Act 1947–1972.

Commencement.

2.This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

Rate of unemployment and sickness benefit.

3. Section 112 of the Social Services Act 1947–1971 is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a)of sub-section (1.) the words “Four dollars fifty cents” and inserting in their stead the words “Seven dollars fifty cents”;

 

(b)by omitting from paragraph (b)of sub-section (1.) the words “Six dollars” and inserting in their stead the words “Eleven dollars”; and

(c) by omitting from paragraph (c) of sub-section (1.) the words “Ten dollars” and inserting in their stead the words “Seventeen dollars”.

Application of amendments.
