The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1Short title

This Act may be cited as the Social Security Legislation Amendment (Digital Television Switch‑over) Act 2009.

2Commencement

1. (1)

   Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1Amendments

Social Security (Administration) Act 1999

Subsection 202(1)

Omit “or the Family Homelessness Prevention and Early Intervention Pilot”, substitute “, the Family Homelessness Prevention and Early Intervention Pilot or the Digital Switch‑over Household Assistance Program”.

After paragraph 202(2)(da)

Insert:

1. (db)

   for the purposes of the Digital Switch‑over Household Assistance Program; or

3

Subclause 1(1) of Schedule 1

Insert:

Digital Switch‑over Household Assistance Program means the program that:

1. (a)

   is administered by the Commonwealth; and

2. (b)

   involves the provision and/or installation of any or all of the following:

   1. (i)

      set‑top boxes;

   2. (ii)

      cables;

   3. (iii)

      antennas;

for the purposes of enabling the members of certain households to view television programs transmitted in digital mode (within the meaning of Schedule 4 to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992).
