Part 1—Preliminary

1  Name

This instrument is the Social Security (Coronavirus Economic Response—2020 Measures No. 15) Determination 2020.

2  Commencement

(1)  Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3  Authority

This instrument is made under the following:

(a) section 504 of the Social Security Act 1991;

(b) section 557 of the Social Security Act 1991;

(c) section 646 of the Social Security Act 1991;

(d) section 1210B of the Social Security Act 1991;

(e) item 40A of Schedule 11 to the Coronavirus Economic Response Package Omnibus Act 2020.

4  Schedules

Each instrument that is specified in a Schedule to this instrument is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this instrument has effect according to its terms.

Part 2—COVID‑19 supplement

5  COVID‑19 supplement—parenting payment

(1) For the purposes of subsection 504(3) of the Social Security Act 1991, the initial period, as previously extended, is extended by the period:

(a)  beginning on 19 December 2020; and

(b)  ending at the end of 31 December 2020.

(2) For the purposes of subsection 504(7) of the Social Security Act 1991, the amount of a person’s COVID‑19 supplement per fortnight for the extension period is $250 for an instalment period in relation to the person that begins on or after 19 December 2020 and before the end of 31 December 2020.

6  COVID‑19 supplement—youth allowance

(1) For the purposes of subsection 557(3) of the Social Security Act 1991, the initial period, as previously extended, is extended by the period:

(a)  beginning on 19 December 2020; and

(b)  ending at the end of 31 December 2020.

(2) For the purposes of subsection 557(7) of the Social Security Act 1991, the amount of a person’s COVID‑19 supplement per fortnight for the extension period is $250 for an instalment period in relation to the person that begins on or after 19 December 2020 and before the end of 31 December 2020.

7  COVID‑19 supplement—jobseeker payment

(1) For the purposes of subsection 646(3) of the Social Security Act 1991, the initial period, as previously extended, is extended by the period:

(a)  beginning on 19 December 2020; and

(b)  ending at the end of 31 December 2020.

(2) For the purposes of subsection 646(7) of the Social Security Act 1991, the amount of a person’s COVID‑19 supplement per fortnight for the extension period is $250 for an instalment period in relation to the person that begins on or after 19 December 2020 and before the end of 31 December 2020.

Schedule 1—Amendments

1  Paragraphs 7(2)(a) and (b)

Repeal the paragraphs, substitute:

(a)  beginning on 19 December 2020; and

(b)  ending at the end of 31 December 2020.

2  Subsection 7(3)

Repeal the subsection, substitute:

(3) For the purposes of paragraph 1210B(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1991, the fortnightly amount of a person’s COVID‑19 supplement for the period is $250 for an instalment period in relation to the person that begins on or after 19 December 2020 and before the end of 31 December 2020.

3  Paragraphs 4(2)(a) and (b)

Repeal the paragraphs, substitute:

(a)  beginning on 19 December 2020; and

(b)  ending at the end of 31 December 2020.

4  Subsection 4(3)

Repeal the subsection, substitute:

(3) For the purposes of paragraph 1210B(1)(d) of the Social Security Act 1991, the fortnightly amount of a person’s COVID‑19 supplement for the period is $250 for an instalment period in relation to the person that begins on or after 19 December 2020 and before the end of 31 December 2020.

5  Subitem 1(3) of Schedule 1 (subsection 23(4AB) of the Social Security Act 1991)

Omit “before 16 November 2020”, substitute “before 31 December 2020”.

Omit “a reference to 16 November 2020”, substitute “a reference to 31 December 2020”.
