1          Name of Determination

This Specification is the Social Security (Administration) (toys are a priority need) Specification 2010.

2          Commencement

This Specification commences on the day after it is registered.

3          Priority needs

For the purposes of paragraph 123TH(1)(q) of the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999, toys are a ‘priority need’ if they meet the following criteria:

·    provide opportunities for physical activity and develop gross-motor skills;

·    promote literacy, numeracy, thinking skills and social skills;

·    help children develop fine motor skills and imagination;

·    encourage creative play, role modelling, language development and fun.
