Shop Trading Hours (Christmas 1999) Amendment Act 1999

An Act to amend the Shop Trading Hours Act 1984

Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows:

1Short titleThis Act may be cited as the Shop Trading Hours (Christmas 1999) Amendment Act 1999 . 2CommencementThis Act commences on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent. 3Principal ActIn this Act, the Shop Trading Hours Act 1984 is referred to as the Principal Act. 4Section 5 amended (Certain shops prohibited from opening on certain occasions) Section 5 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting after subsection (2A) the following subsection: (2B)  In the year 1999, a shop to which this section applies may not be kept open at any time after 6 p.m. on 24 December or after 6 p.m. on 31 December. 5Section 5A substituted Section 5A of the Principal Act is repealed and the following section is substituted: 5AExtended shop trading days Notwithstanding section 5  – (a) a shop to which that section applies may be kept open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., or for any period of time between those hours, on 28 December 1999 and may remain open until 9 p.m. on that day as provided by paragraph (c); and (b) a shop to which that section applies may be kept open between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., or for any period of time between those hours, on any 2 but not more of the following days: (i) 20 December 1999; (ii) 21 December 1999; (iii) 22 December 1999; (iv) 23 December 1999; and (c) a shop to which that section applies may be kept open between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., or for any period of time between those hours, on any 2 but not all of the following days: (i) 28 December 1999; (ii) 29 December 1999; (iii) 30 December 1999.
