Shipping Registration Regulations2(Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Shipping Registration Act 1981.

 After regulation 33 of the Shipping Registration Regulations the following regulation is inserted:

Ships exempted from the requirements of section 68 of the Act

“33A.

(1) For the purposes of sub-section 68 (4) of the Act, the following class of ships is prescribed, that is to say, small craft operated by traditional inhabitants.

“(2)

In this regulation—

‘Torres Strait Treaty’ means the Treaty between Australia and the Independent State of Papua New Guinea that was signed at Sydney on 18 December 1978;

‘traditional inhabitants’ has the same meaning as in the Torres Strait Treaty.”.
