1  Name

This is the Shipping Registration (International Register—Minimum Wages) Determination 2016.

2  Commencement

(1)  Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3  Authority

This instrument is made under subsections 61AE(3) and (5) of the Shipping Registration Act 1981.

Note 1: This instrument determines the amount of wages of seafarers performing particular types of work. The amount of wages determined by this instrument for a seafarer performing a particular type of work is the minimum amount of wages that can be specified in the work agreement of a seafarer working, or proposing to work, on board a ship that is registered in the International Register when it is used to engage in international trading (see sections 61AC, 61AD and 61AE of the Shipping Registration Act 1981).

Note 2:       For the definitions of International Register, international trading, ITF template agreement, seafarer, ship and work agreement, see the Shipping Registration Act 1981.

4  Schedules

Each instrument that is specified in a Schedule to this instrument is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this instrument has effect according to its terms.

5  Amount of wages

The amount of wages of a seafarer performing the work of a classification mentioned in column 1 of an item of the following table is the amount mentioned in column 2 of the item.
