| I’reamble. | X I^ H E B jEAS it is expedient to facilitate the engagement of Seamen |
for Colonial Trade Vessels B(‘ it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legisla tive Council and Legislative Assembly of New South M^ales in Parlia ment assembled and by the authority of the same as follows :—

| Interpretation. | 1. The term “ Colonial Trade Vessel” shall in the construction of this Act mean and include every vessel of whatever kind or burden which shall be engaged in trading between any port in this Colony and any other such port or between any such port and any port in any of the Australian Colonies or New Zealand. |

In any case of two or more Colonial Trade Vessels belonging to the same Owner the agreement 'with any Seaman may notwith standing any provisions of the Acts thirteenth Victoria number twenty- eight or seventeenth Victoria number thirty-six be made by such Owner instead of the Muster of any such Vessel and any such Seaman may he engaged to serve in any two or more of such Vessels Provided that no such agreement shall be made to exceed a period of six months except when such period of six months shall terminate at sea and then all such agreements shall terminate three days after the arrival of the Vessel in the port of engagement Provided also that the names of such Vessels and of their respective Masters and the nature of the service he specified in the agreement Provided also that except as herein expressly enacted every existing enactment relating to ordinary agreements with Seamen for Colonial Trade Vessels shall apply to agreements entered into under this enactment Provided also that any Seaman who has a claim for wages may sue either the Owner or Master of the Vessel in which he has last sailed notmtlvstanding that the said Master has not signed the agreement. |

| Short title. | 8. This Act shall be styled and may be cited as the “ Seamen’s Engagement Amendment Act of 1860.” |
