Seamen’s Compensation Regulations2 (Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Seamen’s Compensation Act 1911.

Principal Regulations

1. In these Regulations, “Principal Regulations” means the Seamen’s Compensation Regulations.

Amounts prescribed for the purposes of certain provisions of the Act

2. Regulation 118 of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting the table and substituting the following table:

Amounts prescribed for the purposes of clause (1) (a) (i) of Schedule 1 to the Act

3. Regulation 119 of the Principal Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) “$49,990” and substituting “$51,290”; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) “$20” and substituting “$20.50”.

Amount prescribed for the purposes of sub-paragraph (1) (b) of Schedule 1 to the Act

4. Regulation 120 of the Principal Regulations is amended by omitting “$160.60” and substituting “$164.80”.

Application

5. (1) An amendment of the Principal Regulations made by these Regulations, being an amendment of an amount of weekly compensation payable under the Seamen’s Compensation Act 1911 applies in respect of any week commencing on or after 1 November 1985.

(2) An amendment of the Principal Regulations made by these Regulations, being an amendment (other than an amendment referred to in sub-regulation (1)) in respect of an amount of compensation under the Seamen’s Compensation Act 1911, applies in respect of—

(a) an injury sustained or a disease suffered by a seaman on or after 1 November 1985; or

(b) a loss or event that occurs on or after 1 November 1985 resulting from an injury sustained, or a disease suffered, by a seaman before that date.
