An Ordinance to establish a Toll to belevied upon Sandal Wood, to be applied to the Construction and Repair of Public Roads and Lines of Communication.

and other lines of communication is caused by the conveyance of large quantities of the timber commonly called sandal wood, from the interior to the different ports of shipment, and it is therefore deemed expedient that a toll should be levied upon the said timber to provide a fund for the construction, repair, and improvement of such roads and other lines of communication ; —Be it therefore enacted, by His Excellency the Governor of Western Australia and its Dependencies, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, that a toll or charge of ten shillings shall be due and payable upon

II. AND be it enacted, that the sums arising from the said toll shall be paid over by such Collector or Sub-Collector, to the Chair- man of the Central Board of Works of the colony ; and that the said Board shall issue all such regulations from time to time for the collection and payment of the said toll as they may deem expedient ; Provided always that all such regulations shall be approved by the Governor in Executive Council and published in three successive Government Gazettes before the same shall be put in operation.

Penalty for evading toll III. AND be it enacted, that any person who shall be convicted

any sum not exceeding of having shipped -for -exportation any sandal wood without having

tor with respect to the Same, or of having violated or broken any of the regulations aforesaid, shall for every such offence forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding one hundred pounds over and above the amount of the toll due and payable upon the sandal wood so shipped.
