THE SALARIES [ASSENTED TO 26TH SEPTEMBER, 1930.] ACT OF 1930. B E it enacted by the King's lVIost Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queenslandin Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- 1. This Act may be cited as "The Salaries Act of Short title 1930," and shall be deemed to have come into operation: ~ ! mence. on the fifteenth day of September, one thousand nine ment of Act. hundred and thirty. 2. For the purposes of this Act- Interpreta. tion. The term " Salary" means the salary, wages, Salary, allowances, fees, commission, and every other emolu- ment, whether in one sum or several sums, provided for by, or paid out of, any annual or special or permanent appropriation of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, or the Loan Fund Account, or any Trust or Special Fund made by any Act of Parliament, as payment for personal services rendered by any person employed in the service of the Government of Queensland, whether the rate of such payment is or is not specified in such Act, and whether such person is employed in or in connection with one department or several departments: The term" Salary," however, does not include- (a) Travelling or relieving or transfer expenses or equipment or forage or sustenance or Northern or Western allowances (whether such susten- ance or Northern 'or Western allowance is paid as an allowance separate from the principal salary or wages of the officer, or his principal salary or wages is or are paid at an increased rate in lieu of the payment of such sustenance or Northern or Western allowance as a separate allowance), or any other allowances or emoluments which the Governor in Council may determine; or (b) A pension or superannuation allowance.

Notwithstanding the provisions of any Act to the contrary, every officer, instead of being paid the· salary which, except for this Act, he would have been entitled to receive, shall, without further or other authority than this Act, be paid such salary less a reduction calculated as follows :- If the rate of such salary exceeds one thousand five hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of fifteen per centum: provided that such salary shall not be thereby reduced below one thousand three hundred pounds; If the rate of such salary exceeds one thousand one hundred pounds but does not exceed one thousand five hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of fourteen per centum : provided that such salary shall not be thereby reduced below nine hundred and sixty-five pounds; If the rate of such salary exceeds eight hundred pounds but does not exceed one thousand one hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of thirteen per centum: provided that such salary shall not be thereby reduced below seven hundred and ten pounds; If the rate of such salary exceeds six hundred pounds but does not exceed eight hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of twelve per centum: provided that such salary shall not be thereby reduced below five hundred and forty pounds; If the rate of such salary exceeds four hundred pounds but does not exceed six hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of eleven per centum: provided that such salary shall not be thereby reduced below three hundred and sixty-five pounds; If the rate of such salary does not exceed four hundred pounds per annum-a reduction of ten per. centum : Provided that the Governor in Council may from time to time, in respect of the salary or salaries of any

Salaries Act. officer or class of officers, or section of a class of officers, increase or decrease or in any other way amend, vary, or modify the reductions prescribed in this section, and ther.eafter the reductions from the salary or salaries of such officer or class of officers or section of a class of officers shall be at the rate so determined by the Governor in Council: Provided further that for the purpose of ascertaining the reduction to be made in any salary on and from the fifteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, the term" salary" shall (without limiting the meaning of " salary" as defined in section two of this Act) mean the salary which would have otherwise been payable to an officer on the fifteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, if the reduction consequent upon the Basic Wage Declara- tion of the sixteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, and the variations of awards and agreements made by the Court or the Registrar subsequent to the sixteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, pursuant to the provisions of *" The Ind~ t8trial Conciliation and ArbitrationAct of 1929," had not been made, and to the intent that the rate of reduction as in this section provided, or the rate determined by the Governor in Council in pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred and vested in him by the first proviso to this section, as the case may be, shall be the total rate of reduction as from the fifteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and thirty, under and pursuant to this Act. 4. This Act shall not apply to the salaries of the Exceptions. following persons, namely :- His Excellency the Governor; The Private Secretary to His Excellency the Governor; Any other person determined in that behalf by the Governor in Council. 5.
