RYDE MENTAL HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION

ACT.

Act No. 1, 1948.

An Act to sanction and to provide for the construction of a Mental Hospital at Ryde in the Sydney Metropolitan Area; to amend the Local Government Act, 1919; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented

to, 22nd April, 1948.]

BE it enacted b y the King ' s Most Excellent Majesty, lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South b y and with t he advice and consent of the Legis­ Wales in Par l iament assembled, and b y the author i ty of
the same, as follows :—

This Act may be cited as the " R y d e Mental Hospi ta l Construct ion Act, 1948 ."

2. (1) (a) The ca r ry ing out of the work described in the Schedule to this Act is hereby sanctioned.

(b) The said work shall be deemed to be an au thor i sed work within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts .

(c) The Minister for Publ ic W o r k s is

empowered to ca r ry out the said work and shall be the Const ruct ing Author i ty for the same within the meaning of the said Act, as so amended, and shall enter into such cont rac ts and take all such necessary steps for the p rope r execution thereof as such au thor i ty may think proper .

(d) The provis ions of the Public Works Act,

1912, as amended by subsequent Acts , sections thir ty-four,
thirty-five, thir ty-six and thir ty-seven excepted, shall
app ly to and in respect of the said work.

(2) Wi thou t prejudice to the general i ty of subsec­ tion one of this section the provisions of section th i r ty- e igh t of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts , shall apply to and in respect of any cont rac t s re fer red to in p a r a g r a p h (c) of subsection one of this section.

3 . The cost of carrying out the said work, exclusive of land resumptions, is estimated as one million seven hundred and live thousand pounds and such estimated cost shall not, under any circumstances, be exceeded by more than ten per centum.

4 . The provisions of this Act shall have effect and any land acquired for the purposes of this Act may be used for or in connection with the conduct of a mental hospital notwithstanding anything contained in Part
X I I A of the Local Government Act, 1919, as amended by

subsequent Acts.

SCHEDULE.

The construction and equipment of a Mental Hospital at Kyde

comprising:—

(1) Approximately thirty Ward Blocks designed to house one thousand four hundred patients in all with accommodation ranging from thirty to one hundred patients per block;

(2) Administrative Buildings;
(3) Hospital Block, including Operating Theatres;
(4) Kitchen, Laundry and Stores Blocks;
(5) Amusement Hall ;
(6) Besidences for Medical Staff and Senior Staff Officers;
(7) Quarters for Nurses and Attendants;
(8) Farm Buildings;

(9) Boiler Station;

(10) Other ancillary buildings as deemed necessary or desirable

by the Constructing Authority.

The whole of the works hereinbefore described to be subject to such modifications as may be deemed necessary or dcsirablo by the Constructing Authority.
