ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE VETERANS’ RESIDENCES AMENDMENT ACT 1976

An Act to amend the Royal Australian Air Force Veterans’ Residences Act 1953.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title, &c.

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Royal Australian Air Force Veterans Residences Amendment Act 1976.

(2) The Royal Australian Air Force Veterans’ Residences Act 1953is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

Commencement.

2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

Definitions.

3. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of the definition of “eligible person” the word “male”; and

(b) by omitting paragraph (d) of that definition and substituting the following paragraph:—

“(d) a former member of the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service or of the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force;”.

Powers of Trust.

4. Section 8 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting sub-section (3) and substituting the following sub-section:—

“(3) The Trust shall, in the provision of accommodation under this Act, give preference to former members of the Royal Australian Air Force, of the Royal Australian Air Force Nursing Service and of the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force who served in the war that commenced on 3 September 1939 and their dependants.”.

Additional amendments.

5. The Principal Act is amended as set out in the Schedule.
