Road Transport (Mass, Loading and
Access) Amendment Regulation 1997

Roads Act 1993
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Roads Act 1993.

Explanatory note
The object of this Regulation is to amend the Road Transport (Mass,Loading and Access) Regulation 1996 so as:
(a)
to modify the formula for assessing the mass limit of a road train in relation to its axle spacing so that it will be consistent with the formula approved by the Ministerial Council for Road Transport for the purposes of the national uniform road transport laws, and
(b)
to allow roads authorities to erect notices restricting vehicles or combinations from entering certain light thoroughfares, bridges and roads regardless of the mass of the vehicles or combinations.
This Regulation is made under the Roads Act 1993, including sections 264
(the general regulation-making power) and 264A.

1 Name of Regulation

The Road Transport (Mass Loading and Access) Regulation 1996 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

Insert “(other than clause 40)” after “This Regulation” in clause 5

Insert after clause 5 (3):
(4) Clause 40 applies to a vehicle or combination of any
mass.

Omit clause 4 (3).

Omit Part 3. Insert instead:
Part 3—Mass limits relating to axle spacing—Road trains
For any road train the sum of the M = 3L + 12.5 where M is the axle loads of the axles in any two mass limit in tonnes, and L is the adjacent axle groups (or of any distance in metres. single axle and the axles in an
adjacent axle group) must not
exceed that calculated in accordance
with the formula opposite.
